Let’s get to know our new Severna Park Dentist, Dr. Lindsay Wessner
Dr. Wessner recently joined Dr. Morgan’s practice in October, 2013. We sat down with Lindsay to ask her a few questions in order to get to know her better.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in southern New Jersey. It was a great area and I was able to get involved in community activities. I played softball, basketball, and field hockey in high school. I lived in New Jersey until I graduated high school and then moved to Delaware to attend the University of Delaware for my undergraduate studies.
When did you decide to become a dentist?
In second grade my teacher asked me to draw a picture of what I wanted to be when I grew up. I drew a picture of a dentist with a patient in a dental chair. My family dentist also inspired me to pursue a career in dentistry. While attending the University of Delaware, I volunteered at A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital in the special needs patients’ dental clinic. This experience was amazing and made me realize that being a dentist was what I really wanted to be.
Where did you go to dental school and how long have you been practicing dentistry?
After my undergraduate studies at the University of Delaware, I completed dental school at the University of Maryland Dental School. Because of my experience at the children’s hospital, I thought I wanted to specialize in pediatric dentistry, but during dental school, I realized I could still see children in a family-based practice and at the same time, care for their families as well. I graduated dental school in 2008 and then completed a general practice residency at the Veterans’ Affairs Hospital in Washington, D. C. At the VA, I was able to learn more about complex procedures like dental surgery.
What do you love most about being a dentist?
When I started practicing it was amazing to me to see how many people hated the dentist and the bad experiences they had going to the dentist. My goal each and every day is to help educate patients about their oral health and help them overcome their dental phobias. A successful day to me is when a patient says “That was the best and least stressful dental visit I have ever had.” I love Dr. Morgan’s office because it reminds me of my family dentist growing up; a close-knit family of both patients and staff! I look forward to meeting patients and providing great dental care.
What do you do when you are not practicing dentistry?
In addition to working full time, I am a full time mom and wife. I have a one year old daughter, a three year old son, and a four year old black labrador. I love spending time with my family. On the weekends, we love taking family walks, playing at the park, and watching movies. My family is very important to me.
