Dental Crowns An Overview
Dr. Morgan provides patients with several types of dental crowns in Severna Park MD, depending on the patient’s specific condition. We will consider your health needs, and cosmetic goals to help you make the choice with the best long-term benefits. Dental crowns can be used to address a wide range of cosmetic and restorative dental concerns.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a fixed/cemented restoration that covers the tooth like a “cap” providing protection and stability to its underlying teeth. A crown can be made of many types of materials including porcelain, gold, resin, or a combination of these materials.
Dental crowns may be used to:
- Fix a chipped or cracked tooth
- Address a discolored or stained tooth
- Fix a misshapen tooth
- Strengthen a tooth to help support a dental bridge
- Stabilize a tooth after a root canal procedure

Dental Crowns What to Expect
During your consultation, our team will discuss your dental goals, examine your teeth, and answer any questions you may have. We take the time to explain all aspects of your care to ensure you are fully informed throughout your appointment.
At the crown preparation appointment, our dentists will prepare the tooth for the crown, removing decay and defective restorations. An impression model is then made and sent to the lab for the fabrication of the crown. The patient will leave the office with a temporary crown securely in place, and return about two weeks later for the lab processed crown to be delivered.
Once your custom crown is fabricated, we will carefully remove the temporary crown and place your permanent crown. Once it is placed, we will genetly polish the surface of the crown to reveal a natural luster.
It is important to continue practicing a proper oral hygiene routine and scheduling regular visits to our dentist office. With proper care and maintenance, a custom dental crown can last many years. Maintaining a healthy smile will benefit your dental health in the long run.
